In 2021, the Richards Review of Diagnostic Services for NHS England emphasised the role that that community diagnostics could play. The Review coined the term Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) as a shift from hospital-based testing, towards community-based testing.
Responding instantly, Perspectum and Oxford Universities Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHT) agreed to build and operate a CDC at its current premises. OxDC opened in January 2022 and now delivers 74,000 tests annually. The Perspectum Board agreed in October 2025 to provide the funds to double the size of OxDC – the expanded service is scheduled to start in late 2026.
OxDC aims to provide efficient, innovative, and environmentally-aware management. We have shown how MRI can be run efficiently and for far longer than in most private hospitals. OxDC has introduced prizewinning diagnostic pathways (Breathlessness and Respiratory Early Diagnostic Service REDS) in conjunction with local clinicians at OUHT. OxDC is introducing new technology for sleep, breathing, and heart monitoring. And OxCD has reduced its carbon footprint from clinical waste by two orders of magnitude.
You can be seen through the NHS or as a private patient. You’ll need a referral first, and we’ll check it to make sure this service is right for you.
