About Us

Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) derive from the report in 2020 by Sir Mike Richards.  They were proposed as a shift away from hospital-based testing, towards community-based testing.  The basic idea is that some tests need equipment or expertise that is not generally available in a GP surgery; but by doing them in dedicated CDCs frees hospitals to concentrate on more complex cases.

The Oxford CDC (OxCD) was jointly created by Perspectum, a biotechnology company that is a spin-off from the University of Oxford, and Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust. OxCD opened in January 2022 and currently provides 72,606 tests. These range from blood tests (phlebotomy) to MRI.

OxCD aims to provide rapid, efficient, professional care for NHS patients. Reflecting its origins in the University of Oxford, OxCD regularly introduces innovations in healthcare all aimed at improving the patient experience. We work closely with BOB ICB – the regional Integrated Care Board – to develop and test novel care pathways that save patients and the NHS time and money while improving patient care.
