Risks and Benefits
People often worry about radiation from X-rays, but the exposure is minimal. The radiation level is comparable to a few days to a few years of natural environmental exposure. If you have concerns, discuss them with your doctor or radiographer.
Preparing for Your Scan
- Clothing:
Wear comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons, or belts. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
There is space in the X-ray room to store any personal items safely during the exam.
- Pregnancy:
Inform the Radiographer if there is any chance you might be pregnant.
If you are of childbearing age, we will ask you to complete a pregnancy form
before your appointment.
During the Scan
You may be asked to lie down, sit, or stand, depending on the area being examined.
You can usually go home or return to work immediately after the X-ray.
Results
The results will be sent to your referring doctor, who will discuss them with you.
Your results should be with your referring doctor within 2 to 3 weeks.
If you have not received your results, please get in touch with your referring doctor.
